This video shows a simple self-assessment that students can do as they finish class. It allows them to reflect on their work in class and to allow the teacher to see a quick snapshot of how the students are perceiving their participation.
We believe self-assessment is key to student learning and will encorporate it into our teaching whenever possible!

Seven Key Messages from Ophea
-
These messages are a great way to make sure our assessments, as well as instruction provide a supportive environment where students are safe to take risks.
-
We want assessments to be organically integrated into student learning.
-
We both think that it’s very important that students focus on the process of learning, through self-reflections and self-assessments, as opposed to the “final result”.
-
We hope to de-emphasize the importance of grades and instead focus on learning and developing personal well-ness in all areas.
This page on Ophea’s site is a great resource for ready-to-use basic assessment tool templates in four different key categories including a rubric, a checkbric, an anecdotal recording chart, and a skills checklist. These are a great resource for starting out and we definitely plan on using at least some of these in our classrooms.
This page on PE Central is a great resource for concrete activities with assessment tools that address many different movement and sports-based skills in creative ways.
There are many easy to follow resources for student-focus assessments that are engaging and educationally relevant.
